Before winning the Singjamei seat on a BJP ticket in 2017, Mr. Singh taught taekwondo, a Korean martial art, to children. It was reflected in the way Mr. Singh was selected. All the BJP legislators, including Mr. Singh, were called to Delhi, where the decision was sealed and announced to the waiting MLAs. On December 8, in an unprecedented turn of events, Mr. Singh visited two Kuki-Zo villages and a relief camp to extend solidarity with the displaced people and those affected by violence. With a year to go for the next elections, due in February 2027, Mr. Singh has his task cut out.
